Shri Ambika Yog Kutir is a testament to the enduring power of yoga and its ability to unite, heal, and transform lives. Founded in 1965 by the esteemed Rev. Hathayogi Shri Nikam Guruji, our journey began with a small group of dedicated followers at his residence in Girgaum, Mumbai. From these humble beginnings, Shri Ambika Yog Kutir has grown into a vibrant community dedicated to spreading the knowledge and benefits of yoga to all, regardless of background or financial status.
Shri Ambika Yog Kutir is more than just a yoga institution; it is a community bound by a shared belief in the transformative power of yoga. Our mission is to make yoga accessible to everyone, offering basic courses completely free of charge. We are committed to creating well-trained instructors who can carry forward the tradition of yoga with integrity and expertise.
Our teachings are rooted in the classical traditions of yoga, as imparted by our founder, Rev. Hathayogi Shri Nikam Guruji. We believe in yoga as a holistic practice that benefits the mind, body, and spirit, fostering a sense of peace, health, and well-being. As we continue to grow and evolve, our dedication to spreading the light of yoga remains as strong as ever. We invite you to join us on this journey of self-discovery and service to others, as we work together to create a healthier, more peaceful world.
1965 : The seeds of Shri Ambika Yog Kutir were sown in 1965 when Rev. Hathayogi Shri Nikam Guruji, driven by a vision to share the profound benefits of yoga, began teaching a handful of followers at his Girgaum residence in Mumbai. This small gathering marked the beginning of a movement that would touch thousands of lives in the years to come.
1976 : As the number of yoga aspirants steadily grew, the need for a larger space became apparent. In 1976, Rev. Guruji relocated to Shreerang Society in Thane, where the Kutir’s activities continued at his residence. The growing demand for yoga instruction led to the inevitable decision to find a dedicated space for the Kutir's expanding activities.
1982 : In recognition of its growing influence and the need for a formal structure, Shri Ambika Yog Kutir was officially registered as a Public Charitable Trust in 1982. This marked a significant milestone in our journey, solidifying our commitment to providing free yoga education to the masses.
1985 : With the continued increase in participation, Shri Ambika Yog Kutir acquired its own premises in 1985 at CD-51/C1 Shreerang Society, Thane. This new space allowed us to enhance our offerings and accommodate the growing number of yoga enthusiasts.
1991 : In June 1991, the Shreerang Society was severely affected by heavy floods, submerging the entire area under water. The Kutir’s bungalows were demolished, necessitating a temporary relocation of our activities. Despite this setback, our resolve to continue spreading the teachings of yoga remained unwavering.
1992 : In 1992, Shri Ambika Yog Kutir found a new, permanent home at B.K. Mill Compound, Meenatai Thackrey Chowk, LBS Road, Thane (W). This address remains our base of operations to this day, serving as a hub for yoga education and practice for countless individuals from all walks of life.
